How AI Search Finds Local Restaurants

Delvixo Team5 min read

When someone asks for the best pizza near them, your job is to make the useful facts about your restaurant easy to find and easy to check: what you serve, where you are, when you are open, and how to visit or order.

There is no form you can submit that controls what an AI assistant says. Each platform finds and presents information its own way. So we focus on the parts you can keep correct. The same applies to salons, repair shops and other local services. Restaurants just have more menu and ordering details to keep straight.

What does Google say about AI search?

Google says its AI features can run several related searches across subtopics and data sources. A page has to be indexed and eligible to show in Google Search with a snippet before it can be linked there. Being eligible does not guarantee a spot.

Google also says you do not need special AI text files, new machine-readable files or special markup to appear in these features. Ordinary good search practice still applies.

For local results, Google says they are mainly based on relevance, distance and prominence. It also says more reviews and positive ratings can help local ranking. That is guidance for local results, not a published formula for AI Overviews, so do not treat it as one.

What about Bing and Siri?

Bing Places lets owners manage the listing details people see in Bing, such as hours and contact information, and restaurant links like a menu or online ordering page. Keep it on your regular checklist. That does not mean an edit there produces a mention in any particular AI answer.

Apple says business details updated through Apple Business Connect appear in Maps, Siri, Safari, Calendar and other places. Apple has since combined the tool into Apple Business. Open your place card, check the hours and buttons, and test the website, phone and booking or ordering link.

Those pages support keeping the public details right. They do not give a recommendation formula for Siri or any other assistant, and we will not pretend they do.

What should my website say?

Write for someone deciding whether your place fits their plans. Useful details include:

  • Your cuisine and a current menu with readable descriptions.
  • The address and phone number for each location.
  • Regular hours and important exceptions.
  • Dining, takeout, delivery and reservation options you really offer.
  • Seating, parking or accessibility details you have verified.
  • Short answers to questions customers keep asking.

Keep claims precise. If only some dishes suit a dietary need, name those dishes instead of promising it for the whole kitchen. Give each real location its own page when that helps. Do not add towns or services just because you want to show up for them.

Do schema and llms.txt matter?

Schema is structured information in your site's code that a developer can use to describe your business. Google keeps a LocalBusiness guide with fields for contact details, hours and restaurant information. Have your developer compare the markup with the page a customer sees, and make sure they agree. Google lists matching structured data to visible text as a worthwhile practice.

That is accurate implementation. It is not a switch that makes assistants recommend you.

The llms.txt idea is a proposal for a Markdown file that gives language models background on a website. It is still a proposal. Google says its AI features do not need such files. If someone offers to add one, ask which system will read it, what evidence supports the work, and who will keep it accurate. Fix your menu and contact details first.

What can I do this week?

Read your recent reviews for operating problems you can investigate, like people struggling to find you or to order a dish. Compare their experience with what your listings and website say.

Keep Google, Apple Maps, Bing, Yelp, Facebook and your website on one checklist, and add the reservation and delivery services you use. We cover that checklist in a separate article. That is a maintenance habit, and we are not claiming every AI product reads every one of those sources.

When you check AI answers yourself, save the question, the place, the date and any pages it cites. If a fact is wrong, trace it back to its source. One good appearance proves nothing about steady placement.

Quick answers

Can anyone guarantee AI recommendations?

No. Google says meeting its conditions makes a page eligible and does not guarantee inclusion. Be wary of anyone who promises more.

Do reviews count the same everywhere?

We do not know, and the platforms have not said. Google's review guidance covers its local results, not every assistant.

What should I fix first?

The customer journey: correct hours, location, phone, menu and ordering links. After that, have your developer check indexing and structured data.
